OTTAWA, November 4, 2025 — The Canadian Media Producers Association welcomed today’s federal budget, which delivered on government commitments to invest in the domestic media production sector and defend Canada’s cultural sovereignty.
“Today’s budget is a win for Canadian media producers, for Canada’s cultural sovereignty and for all Canadians,” said Reynolds Mastin, President and CEO of the CMPA. “Against a backdrop of unprecedented trade uncertainty, the investments announced in the federal budget will bring much-needed stability for the Canadian media production sector.”
The association, which represents more than 600 independent media production companies across Canada, noted that commitments in the budget will help unlock welcome domestic and foreign investment to supercharge media production in this country.
“We want to thank the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, who has long been a champion of our sector. The investments announced today will, without a doubt, lead to more great Canadian stories on screen tomorrow,” added Mastin.
The CMPA highlighted that measures included in the budget will help secure a strong and sustainable media sector in the years ahead. These include:
- $150 million over three years for Telefilm Canada
- $127.5 million over three years for the Canada Media Fund
- $150 million in 2025-2026 for CBC/Radio-Canada
- $26.1 million over three years for the National Film Board
The CMPA also welcomed the federal government’s investment in CBC, the largest commissioner of independently produced Canadian content, and in particular, the positive implications for children’s programming in Canada.
“With today’s budget and the CBC’s prioritization of children’s content in its recent strategic plan, Canadian parents can rest assured that their kids will be able to see themselves reflected in Canadian stories on screens of all sizes for years to come,” said Mastin.
