TORONTO, June 22, 2023 — The Canadian Media Producers Association today opened applications for the 2023 Indiescreen Awards, also announcing that the awards ceremony will make its return to the Toronto International Film Festival. The prize amounts, doubled in 2022, are $20,000 for the Established Producer category, and $10,000 for the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer category. The annual Indiescreen Awards will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The event will take place at the Glenn Gould Studio at 250 Front St. West from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET.

“We are thrilled to be back in Toronto at TIFF this September to host the Indiescreen Awards and celebrate the best and brightest among Canada’s independent feature film producers,” said Andrew Addison, the CMPA’s Vice-President of Communications, Marketing and Membership. “With the application process now open, and so much talent and passion on display from Canadian filmmakers, jury members will have a difficult task ahead of them.”

The CMPA is now accepting applications for both the Established Producer category and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer category. To qualify, applicants must have acted as lead producer (or production team) on a Canadian feature film that has or will premiere in the 2023 calendar year. Detailed eligibility criteria and other important application information can be found on the Indiescreen Awards webpageThe deadline to apply is August 4, 2023 (12:00 p.m. local time).

Nominees in both categories will be selected among the applicants by two national juries, each consisting of five industry leaders, and chaired by the previous year’s Indiescreen Award winners. Damon D’Oliveira will serve as the chair of the Established Producer jury, while producing trio Sara Blake, Magali Gillon-Krizaj and Tyler Hagan will sit on as the co-chairs of the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer jury.

The Indiescreen Awards are presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada. Since 2006, the Indiescreen Awards have recognized producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films. The Established Producer Award, recognizes a producer’s filmmaking accomplishments and contributions to Canada’s film production community over the course of their career. The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award, established in 2016, celebrates an up-and-coming independent feature film producer whose early career work indicates a bright career ahead.
