TORONTO, August 4, 2022 — The Canadian Media Producers Association today opened applications for the 2022 Indiescreen Awards, announcing that the prize money for the awards will be increased to $20,000 for the Established Producer category, and $10,000 for the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer category. The CMPA also announced the Indiescreen Awards ceremony will be held in-person at the Whistler Film Festival on December 2, 2022.

“Canada’s independent feature film producers are renowned for their impressive ability to showcase unique, compelling stories,” said Reynolds Mastin, President and CEO, CMPA. “We have increased the Indiescreen Awards prize to recognize the inspirational work of Canada’s independent feature film producers, and the incredible complexities they face in bringing stories to the screen.”

“After two years of virtual ceremonies, we are thrilled to again celebrate the winners at an in-person event,” added Andrew Addison, Vice-President Communications, Marketing and Membership at the CMPA. “And we couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting than Whistler BC to do so, or a better partner than the Whistler Film Festival, Canada’s coolest film festival.”

“We’re excited to welcome Canada’s top talent and key industry to beautiful British Columbia, Nov. 30-Dec. 4, and are thrilled to be hosting this tremendous opportunity for Canadian producers,” said Angela Heck, Executive Director, Whistler Film Festival.

The CMPA is now accepting applications for both the Established Producer category and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer category. To qualify, applicants must have acted as lead producer (or production team) on a Canadian feature film that has or will premiere in the 2022 calendar year. Detailed eligibility criteria and other important application information can be found on the Indiescreen Awards webpage. The deadline to apply is September 22, 2022 (midnight local time).

The Indiescreen Awards are presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada. Since 2006, the Indiescreen Awards have recognized producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films. The Established Producer Award, recognizes a producer’s filmmaking accomplishments and contributions to Canada’s film production community over the course of their career. The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award, established in 2016, celebrates an up-and-coming independent feature film producer whose early career work indicates a bright career ahead.
