Canada’s screen sector thanks government for backing Canadian content in trade talks
OTTAWA, August 28, 2026 — A coalition of Canadian screen sector organizations, representing tens of thousands of Canadians who work in Canada’s audiovisual sector, will publish an advertisement in The Globe and Mail on Saturday, thanking Prime Minister Mark Carney, Canada’s negotiating team, the federal government, premiers, provincial governments, and political parties of all stripes for protecting Canadian cultural sovereignty in recent trade talks.
The ad follows Ottawa’s rejection of U.S. demands to weaken Canadian content requirements for streaming services, and reinforces the importance of rules requiring streamer contributions for Canadian content, discoverability of Canadian programs, and protections for French language programming.
