TORONTO, April 6, 2022 –The Canadian Media Producers Association announced today the promotion of Marcia Douglas to the position of Vice-President, Industry and Business Affairs for the organization. In this role, Marcia will be a key member of the CMPA senior leadership team and will continue to provide strategic advice and services to CMPA members and staff in the areas of industry relations, business affairs, policy development, production financing, sustainability and equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

“Marcia truly excels at collaborating and maintaining strong relationships within the CMPA, with independent producers, and with industry partners,” said CMPA President and CEO, Reynolds Mastin. “She is a driving force for sustainability, innovation and inclusivity, always seeking to further the best interests of CMPA members and the wider industry.”

Douglas joined the CMPA as the Director of Digital Strategy and Business Affairs in 2015, bringing with her many years of financing and funding knowledge and extensive hands-on production experience. In 2018, she was promoted to Senior Director, Business Affairs.

Over the years, Douglas has worked tirelessly on behalf of CMPA members, supporting the important work of various CMPA committees, providing practical advice on business affairs, policy development and more recently championing EDI and climate action and sustainability. Adding to a long list of contributions, and one of the most impactful, is the key role that Douglas played in advocacy to establish and implement the Short-Term Compensation Fund which has served as a production lifeline during the pandemic.

“Independent production is a cultural and economic powerhouse that can lead change through its impact and stories,” says Douglas. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work for the CMPA and its members to advance a diversity of voices and stories by and for all Canadians and audiences around the world.”
