New agreement establishes terms, rates and conditions for Ontario crew members

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) today announced Martin Katz and Ngardy Conteh George as the recipients of its annual Indiescreen Awards, which celebrate the best and brightest in Canadian independent feature film production. The winners were announced at a ceremony, presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada, at the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) on Thursday, September 12.
A new report released today by the Canadian Media Producers Association highlights significant economic benefits generated by the production of just one season of the hit Canadian drama series Sullivan’s Crossing. Production of the show, which took place in Nova Scotia and Ontario, generated $47.55 million in economic activity, contributed $33.83 million to the national GDP, and created 385 full-time equivalent jobs.

Among the annual report’s topline findings: between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, the media production sector in Canada contributed $14.05 billion to Canada’s GDP, generated $12.19 billion in production volume, and created nearly 240,000 jobs. TORONTO, May 7, 2024 — Today, the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) and the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) jointly announced the successful conclusion of negotiations, resulting in an agreement in principle on the terms for a new Independent Production Agreement. The CMPA-WGC Independent Production Agreement establishes the terms, conditions, and rates for writers, story editors, and story consultants.
