The Indiescreen Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award application

The Indiescreen Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award recognizes the impressive potential of an up-and-coming producer, and includes a $10,000 prize.
Five nominees will be selected in each category by juries consisting of three industry leaders, and chaired by the previous year’s Indiescreen Award winners.
The awards jury spends a significant amount of time reviewing answers to the questions posed in the application form and deliberating based on them. It is recommend that applicants take care and provide detailed, thoughtful responses. Your effort in writing up your answers can influence the jury’s evaluation of your submission.
Nominated producers are encouraged to attend the awards, in-person in Toronto on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The CMPA will provide out-of-province nominees with a travel stipend to attend the awards ceremony in Toronto.
Please note, if applying as a producing team, only one travel stipend will be allotted per nominee.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicant(s) must apply with one “qualifying project.” This can be a feature film, series or short-form series.
- The qualifying project must:
- Be CAVCO-certified (in the case of co-productions, it must be a majority Canadian production);
- Have premiered/aired or be slated to premiere/air theatrically, at a film festival, through a broadcaster or on an online streaming service in the 2025 calendar year; and
- If a series, it must have two or more episodes to be considered. Series formats for consideration include kids and adult animation, unscripted/factual, lifestyle, game shows, comedy, drama and limited series.
- The qualifying project cannot be submitted more than once, meaning it cannot be submitted in the other Indiescreen categories.
- Indiescreen Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award winners may apply again after three years.
- The Emerging Producer Award, renamed the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award, was added to the CMPA awards program in 2016 to highlight the extraordinary talents of an up-and-coming producer with bright career prospects.
- Producers wishing to apply for the Indiescreen Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award must have produced three projects or fewer over the course of their career. This includes their qualifying project.
- Applicants must be Canadian citizens or a permanent residents of Canada.
- Applicants are not required to be CMPA members.

No, you do not need to be a CMPA member to apply for the Indiescreen Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award.
Previous winners of the Established Producer Award are welcome to reapply five years after their award win. Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award winners may apply again after three years.
The winners will be announced at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), in an awards ceremony on Thursday, September 4, 2025. More details to come!
