TORONTO, June 3, 2024 — The Canadian Media Producers Association today announced that the 2024 Indiescreen Awards will be handed out as part of the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) in Halifax this September. The awards recognize excellence in Canadian independent feature film production.
“Canadians have witnessed another phenomenal year for homegrown feature films,” said Andrew Addison, Vice-President Communications, Marketing and Membership at the CMPA. “We are thrilled to bring the CMPA’s celebration of Canadian independent feature film production to Atlantic Canada, which has a rich history of storytelling on screen.”
“AIFF is thrilled to welcome this year’s CMPA Indiescreen Awards to Halifax,” said Martha Cooley Executive Director at AIFF. “The CMPA Indiescreen Awards celebrate the best and brightest producing talent and we are honoured to bring that talent to AIFF to showcase our Nova Scotian hospitality and all that our industry on the East Coast has to offer.”
As part of today’s announcement, the CMPA also noted that applications will open on Tuesday, June 4, for the Established Producer award, which includes a $20,000 prize, and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer award, which includes a $10,000 prize.
The lead producer (or production team) of a Canadian feature film that has or will premiere in the 2024 calendar year is eligible to apply for nomination. Detailed eligibility criteria and other important application information can be found on the Indiescreen Awards webpage. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 19.
Since 2006, the Indiescreen Awards have recognized independent producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films. The Established Producer Award recognizes a producer’s filmmaking accomplishments and contributions to Canada’s film production community over the course of their career. The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award, established in 2016, celebrates an up-and-coming independent feature film producer whose early career work indicates a bright career ahead.
