OTTAWA, April 16, 2024 – The Canadian Media Producers Association applauded the federal government this afternoon for its recognition of the importance of a diverse and vibrant Canadian audiovisual sector, in today’s federal budget.

“These investments come at a critical time as the industry continues to find its footing, following multiple years of turbulence and uncertainty,” noted Reynolds Mastin, President and CEO, CMPA. “Today’s budget is a win for creators and audiences alike, and I want to thank the Hon. Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and the entire federal government for their ongoing support of Canada’s media production sector.”

The association noted the significant investments announced in the budget will help ensure a thriving media sector in the years ahead, and include:

  • $40 million over two years for the Canada Media Fund to continue to support media productions, including those led by equity-deserving groups
  • $42 million for CBC/Radio-Canada news and entertainment programming
  • $23 million over three years for The Toronto International Film Festival
  • Official inclusion in the budget of previously announced Telefilm Canada funding of $100 million over two years
  • Official inclusion in the budget of Indigenous Screen Office funding of $65 million over five years
  • And many additional investments to support Canadian media companies and creators, across the country
