VANCOUVER, November 18, 2024 — Today, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the Canadian Media Producers Association – BC Producers Branch (CMPA-BC), and the Directors Guild of Canada BC District Council (DGC BC) announced the successful conclusion of negotiations for a new collective agreement. The deal establishes updated terms, conditions and rates for Directors and other DGC-represented crew members engaged in film, TV and digital media productions in British Columbia, including production management, assistant directors, locations and production assistants.
“The Canadian Affiliates of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers congratulate the DGC BC on reaching an agreement that meaningfully addresses its top priorities and offers substantial increases in wages and benefits for its members,” said Carol Lombardini, President of the AMPTP. “From the first day of negotiations, we shared a strong commitment to collaborating on a deal that reflects the important contributions that members of the DGC BC directorial team make. We look forward to working with our other union partners in the province to reach agreements with them that position British Columbia as a desirable destination with a stable labor environment for film and television producers.”
“With the successful completion of negotiations, our sector has an updated agreement that addresses the needs of all parties and allows producers and the talented directors and crew of the DGC BC to focus on creating world-class content for audiences at home and around the world,” said Jason Lee, CMPA-BC’s Vice President of BC Industrial Relations. “I want to thank our bargaining partners for their commitment to a deal that will bring much-needed strength and stability to BC’s screen-based industry.”
“Today we are happy to announce that 50.3 per cent of eligible DGC BC represented crew voted 90.9 per cent in favour of the deal. In response to these results, the DGC BC Executive Board has ratified the 2025-2028 agreement,” said Rob Larson, DGC BC Business Agent. “I am very proud of what is a very good package for our Members. I’m particularly proud of the historic wage & pension increases and the decoupling of our Production Assistants from minimum wage. A rising tide lifts all boats and this deal serves to do just that. This agreement sets the stage for stability in the industry here in BC, and improves wages for our lowest-paid workers. I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved with our partners across the bargaining table.”
