Firecracker Department
About us
Firecracker Department was founded by Naomi Snieckus. It started as a podcast interviewing female and non-binary artists to give our voices and stories another platform. It has since grown into an international community of artistic women and non-binary folk empowering each other to take creative action through education, positive support and by providing more platforms for our voices and stories.
We have several partnerships that we have developed to support our mandate. The Canadian Comedy Film Igniter Challenge (with Can Film Fest the challenges female and non binary filmmakers to make a funny film in one month with our support. The Writers Lab (Canada) – with The Writers Lab from NYC, that supports women and non binary writers over 40. Women's Day Comedy Cafe with Sketchfest, Firecracker Dept will be hosting a full day of female-centric podcast interviews, panels and comedy show.
We have chapters in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary and host regular comedy events and annual parties during TIFF, VIFF, CIFF to encourage Firecrackers meeting their future collaborators.
In 2025 Firecracker Dept co-produced our first TV series "Bagged" with C'mon Mort Productions for Bell Fibe TV1.
