About us
Founded in 2001 KarmaFilm has built an impressive track record with over 80 hours of content and 40 awards including five Geminis (Canada’s Emmy), and two Canada Awards for excellence in diverse content, a Canadian Screen Award and six nominations, and a Kidscreen Award. As well as official selection for festivals ranging from Sundance to Durban.
A versatile BIPOC and LGBTQ+ led producer of diverse content, KarmaFilm has worked with creatives from around the globe in animation, live action and documentary. KarmaFilm’s latest feature comedy-drama, Donkeyhead, by director Agam Darshi has received numerous awards, was picked up by Ava DuVernay’s distribution arm, Array Releasing for a Netflix release in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand in January 2022 and released theatrically in Canada through LevelFilm. Donkeyhead is currently enjoying an international festival run.
Notable projects on our current slate include animated feature THE TRUTH ABOUT MONSTERS with Anita Doron (writer of Oscar nominated film THE BREADWINNER), “Better Now” LGBTQ2+ dark comedy series with writer Elyse Freidman and acclaimed director Ian Iqbal Rashid(Touch of Pink, Sort Of "winner of the 2022 Peabody Award"). Ramayya is past president of the Saskatchewan Motion Picture Association, and in 2020 was honoured with the Reelworld TRAILBLAZER AWARD and has most recently been recognized with the Canadian Media Producers Association 2021 Established Producer Award.
