About us
Plainspeak Pictures is a Toronto and Los Angeles-based production company founded by producer Harry Cherniak, focused on collaborating with writer/directors with strong voices, working with them to shape and then achieve their visions. The company recently completed Luis De Filippis’ Something You Said Last Night (TIFF’22, Changemaker Award). Cherniak was also a co-producer of Tammy’s Always Dying (TIFF’19, Oscar-nominated Felicity Huffman) and Astronaut (Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfus). His first feature, Wexford Plaza, was nominated for the Toronto Film Critics’ $100,000 Best Canadian Film Prize and the Canadian Screen Award for best first feature. Cherniak is also a feature film programmer for the Slamdance Film Festival and the founder of United in Film, an NGO working with local partners in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda to support the development of their indigenous film industries.
Previously, he was the Director of Legal and Business Affairs for Darius Films, taught at Shanghai University and the University of Southern California, and served for seven years on the Board of Directors of the Inside Out LGBTQ Film Festival.
