2022 CMPA Indiescreen Awards

For over 16 years, the Indiescreen Awards has recognized producers whose vision and entrepreneurship demonstrate a commitment and passion for producing Canadian feature films.

The 17th annual Indiescreen Awards took place at the Whistler Film Festival at a ceremony on December 2, 2022.

Prime Time 2020

Presented by the CMPA, Prime Time is the pre-eminent conference for leaders working in media production, broadcasting, television, and feature film in Canada.

Prime Time 2020 opened with a fireside chat with Canada’s new Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault. His appearance was then followed by a Broadcasting and Telecommunications Legislative Review (BTLR) Chair Janet Yale and Panel Member Monique Simard in their first public appearance after the release of their long-awaited report. Other topics covered at the conference included the future of Canadian broadcasting, streaming opportunities for Canadian producers and the importance of IP.

Prime Time 2020 also marked the conference’s 25th anniversary. In celebration of this milestone, the Prime Time opening reception featured the world of the final season of Cardinal. The screening, attended by a mix Prime Time delegates and Ottawa politicos also featured a Q&A with the show’s cast and producers.

The event marked the opening of the TIFF Industry Conference at the 44th annual Toronto International Film Festival.

2018 CMPA-BC Annual Summer BBQ

CMPA-BC once again hosted a summer BBQ for all CMPA members on Wednesday July 11, 2018. It was a great opportunity for CMPA-BC members to meet CMPA staff, the BC Branch Council and other BC members.

Prime Time 2018

Presented by the CMPA, Prime Time is a three-day think tank that brings together global leaders who are making waves in the world of media.

With over 600 Canadian and international delegates in attendance, Prime Time 2018  took a thorough look at the new platforms entering scripted production and how they’re changing the form of content. Highlights also inlcuded an update on the SVOD marketplace, and the latest information on international trends in financing and sales.

Prime Time 2018 keynote speakers included Netflix’s VP of Content Elizabeth Bradley (pictured, right), actor/writer/director/producer Jay Baruchel, and the Honourable Mélanie Joly.

2017 CMPA Year-End Party

In December 2017, the CMPA hosted its annual Year-End Party at the Copetin Restaurant & Bar in Toronto.

Bringing together leaders from across Canada’s production sector over cocktails and great food, partygoers celebrated the industry’s achievements in 2017.

TIFF 2017 Breakfast with Creators

As part of the 2017 Toronto International Festival, the CMPA, along with the DGC, WGC and ACTRA, hosted Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly at the Breakfast with Creators.

In the spirit of community and collaboration, the intimate event, which took place at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, gave leaders from across Canada’s media production sector the opportunity to meet with the Minister and celebrate the bright future that lies ahead for the industry.

The event marks the opening of the TIFF Industry Conference at the 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival.

This is the second year that both an emerging and established producers were be recognized in their respective categories.

Prime Time 2017

Presented by the CMPA, Prime Time is a three-day think tank that brings together global leaders who are making waves in the world of media.

Prime Time 2017 focused on the future of the industry in the age of experimentation. International and Canadian speakers explored the most top-ofmind issues among the screen-based media industries; accessing financing from digital players, finding new audiences and exploring the creative and business potentials of new platforms like mobile and VR.

Keynote speakers included Sandra Stern (Lionsgate Television Group), Van Toffler (Gunpowder & Sky), Jesse Wente (TIFF) and Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly.

Bellevue world premiere

In January 2017, the CMPA, along with industry partners, hosted the world premiere of the critically-acclaimed CBC original series Bellevue, starring Oscar-winning Canadian actress Anna Paquin (True Blood, X-Men, Alias Grace).

The Ottawa event was attended by key industry leaders, MPs, as well as the cast and crew of Bellevue, including Allen Leech (Downton Abbey, Rome) and Shawn Doyle (Big Love, House of Cards, Fargo).

Bellevue was created by Jane Maggs and Adrienne Mitchell, and produced by Montreal-based Back Alley Films and Muse Entertainment.
