Ryan Cooper (Wilson) is a Ojibwe, two spirited, LGBTQ filmmaker from Treaty One Territory Peguis First Nation, Ryan is a graduate of the National Screen Institute’s CBC New Indigenous Voices program, The NSI Indigidocs program where he had the opportunity to producer an award winning short documentary that went on to be programmed in festivals all around the globe like Slamdance, LA Skins, and at the Cannes Film Festival through the Telefilm program Canada Not So Short On Talent.
Ryan is focused on producing and writing contemporary, cultural & modern stories in an authentic way through scripted and factual storytelling.
Ryan is also the creator of two web series, one titled Daybreak People that has aired on Bell MTS Fibe TV1 early this year, and ImagineNative/APTN pitch winning series iNdigiThreads. Ryan is producing two TELEFILM TALENT TO WATCH projects entitled INdigiThreads which will air on APTN Lumi in 2022, and project Alter Boys. Alter Boys is also a part of the CFC Netflix series accelerator program. Ryan has also gotten 4 television serie projects in development which he acquired funding from CMF and Canadian broadcasters CBC GEM. Ryan is also a part of this year’s Banff World Media Festival & IPF producer Bursary with his project My Sassy Sasquatch. Ryan was also recently named as one of Playback’s Ten to Watch for 2021.

Ryan also studied New Media at Interactive Design Nu Media, and trained in acting at the Academy of Acting. He has trained in theatre at the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, and film and theatre at the University of Winnipeg. Ryan has written many scripts, some of which are optioned and has worked on various union films, in various roles that include, Producer, Director, Writer, assistant production coordinator, 2nd assistant director. He looks forward to bringing empowerment through film and television, and the arts, to his home community.
