HBO & HBO Max | Director of Sustainability

Heidi Kindberg is director of Sustainability for HBO and HBO Max, responsible for overseeing HBO Green and managing the sustainable production program on all scripted HBO and HBO Max lead productions. She was named to this position in March 2020 and reports to Elona Tsou, VP Production.

In this role, Kindberg communicates and collaborates with production executives and crew to ensure the success of production carbon tracking and more than 200 departmental best practices. Additionally, she drives the adaptation of low carbon solutions throughout the supply chain and draws focused attention to sustainable behaviors on-screen. 

Kindberg has continuously and successfully collaborated with industry partners under PGA Green for the last decade and is a leader within the Studio Production Alliance. This year she launched both the Green Film School Alliance and the Sustainable Entertainment Education Series. Prior to joining WarnerMedia, Kindberg served as director, Environmental Sustainability at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), where, over her tenure, she developed and managed lot and production sustainability programs for Columbia, Screen Gems and TriStar features as well as Sony Picture Television shows She also led an employee “green team” of over 1K employees which successfully reached the corporate goal of 85% employee awareness regarding sustainable practices. 

Kindberg also has production experience as a producer, director and production manager. Coming full circle, her first production job after college was on Step by Step, a Miller-Boyett Production for Warner Bros., first working at The Culver Studios and later at Warner Bros. lot. She met her husband while working on this show and she currently lives in Los Angeles with their two kids, Jackson and Megan, and two dogs, Bones and Buffy. 

She has a B.S. in Telecommunications & Film from San Diego State University and a M.A. in Urban Sustainability from Antioch University.
