ASL Master, Coach, Consultant
Anselmo DeSousa was born in Azores, Portugal and moved to Canada in 1974. He is member of ACTRA. He is a talented Deaf actor, ASL (American Sign Language) Master/Coach/Consultant and filmmaker now living in Ontario. Anselmo (ACTRA) realized he wanted to be an actor when he was 12 years old. While watching The Bionic Woman, he told his mom about this desire. She thought he was crazy! However, not till he watched the TV movie Love is Never Silent (starring Phyllis Frelich who was a Deaf actress) did he know that he could fulfill his dream. Since then, Anselmo has studied in workshops and ready everything that he can about becoming an actor, writer, and filmmaker.
His credits include TV commercials, films, and independent films. His work includes the TV series Sue Thomas: F.B.EYE season 1 – 5 (PAX, CTV), Firehouse Dog (Regency Enterprises), The Shape of Water (un-credited) (FOX), CODA (Netflix), and Feel the Beat (Netflix) as an ASL Master/Coach/Consultant. He is currently an IS (International Sign) Host in DeafWaves Season 1 – 4 (Web series – www.h3world.tv) and is an anchor in “DeafDots” (2019 – present) (Web series – www.deafdots.ca). He is an actor as Mr. Costa in the Alan Ritchson’s film “Dark Web: Cicada 3301” (Amazon Prime Video).
In 2010 he wrote, directed and produced his own short film, “Am I Dreaming?”
He is ASL Master/Coach/Consultant for theatres, films, televisions, and organizations.
Currently, he works for Canadian Hearing Services as Educator in Interpreting and Translation Services.
