Original Pictures this year will support the production of an Indigenous-led limited drama series for Bell Media Crave and APTN Lumi called “Little Bird” about a woman adopted during the Sixties Scoop. A co-production with Rezolution Pictures in Montreal, the series will be mostly shot in Manitoba. The series showrunner is Jennifer Podemski (“Reservation Dogs”, “Moccasin Flats”, “The Diviners”) and in Manitoba is led by the majority Indigenous-owned OP Little Bird.

Kim Todd, Original Pictures’ founder and president is an executive producer. Kim is also an executive producer on the fifth season of the Margaret Atwood adaptation “The Handmaid’s Tale”.

Kim was previously an executive producer on the adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” for the streaming service Peacock and before that a co-executive producer on the series “Fargo” (FX) for which she won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Critics’ Choice Award and a Peabody. She has won numerous Canadian and international awards for shows she executive produced, including “A Bear Named Winnie” for CBC. Kim works with the company’s CEO Nicholas Hirst, to develop and produce OP’s projects and with Jessica Dunn who, with Tanya Brunel, is a producer on “Little Bird”. Nick is the former editor of the Winnipeg Free Press and TV Guide Canada.

Original Pictures has offices in Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary and facilitates production for studio projects in each of their locations. Recent highlights include the Universal feature “Nobody” filmed in Winnipeg, the limited series “Under the Banner of Heaven” and “The Teacher” filmed in Alberta for FX, and the Emmy-nominated Amazon Prime Video series “Tales from the Loop” shot in Manitoba.
