Statement: CMPA welcomes BTLR What We Heard Report
OTTAWA, June 26, 2019—The Canadian Media Producers Association today issued the following statement on behalf of its President and CEO, Reynolds Mastin:
On behalf of our more than 400 members across Canada, the CMPA welcomes today’s interim report from the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Legislative Review Panel, and thanks its Chair, Janet Yale, along with her fellow panelists for their considerable efforts in consulting widely with industry stakeholders and Canadians across the country.
Canada’s independent producers share the government’s goal of a strong, vibrant sector that will continue to produce compelling Canadian stories for the screen for both domestic and international audiences. Key to meeting this objective, in an increasingly global media ecosystem, is a legislative foundation that allows Canadian producers to own and control the intellectual property they develop and create.
We look forward to the Panel’s final recommendations to government in early 2020.
