TORONTO, May 26, 2022 –The Canadian Media Producers Association today announced the promotion of Sean Porter to Vice-President, National Industrial Relations and Counsel. In this role, Sean will join the CMPA’s senior leadership team, oversee national industrial relations strategy for the organization, lead national labour negotiations with the industry’s unions and guilds, and drive the CMPA’s priorities related to labour and employment legislation and regulations.

“Sean is highly regarded for his work at the CMPA, and has made outstanding contributions since joining the organization four years ago,” said CMPA President and CEO, Reynolds Mastin. “Sean is a strong, pragmatic negotiator with an extensive understanding of our members’ issues, and has demonstrated a superior ability to collaborate and build solid relationships with senior industry leaders.”

Sean joined the CMPA in 2018 as the Director, National Industrial Relations and Counsel. In 2021, he was promoted to Lead Negotiator and Senior Director, National Industrial Relations and Counsel. During his time at the CMPA, Sean played a leading role in the development of COVID-19 guidance as co-chair of the Ontario Section 21 Committee; and, in the last year, he successfully led negotiations of the CMPA’s labour agreement renewals with ACTRA, NABET and IATSE, Local 411 (Craftservice and Honeywagon).

“During my time at the CMPA, I have been consistently impressed by the effort and commitment our members make to building a strong and vibrant independent production industry in Canada,” Added Sean. “I look forward to continuing to support CMPA members in this new, expanded role.”

Prior to joining the CMPA, Sean was at McCarthy Tetrault LLP as an Associate in the labour and employment group, and at Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storie LLP where he articled and worked as an Associate. Sean received his Juris Doctor from Queen’s University and was called to the bar in Ontario in 2014.
