Wapanatahk Media Inc.
About us
Wapanatahk Media is an entertainment company that creates top-quality content for broadcasters, distributors and streaming platforms. Its vision is to become a top-tier media company, recognized for creating original, dynamic, and compelling content that is sold around the world. Wapanatahk’s mission is to bring Indigenous characters, themes, and stories to mainstream television, to entertain both national and international audiences.
It strives to attract the most highly skilled Indigenous creatives in the country and to have gender-balanced and inclusive production teams. The company also prioritizes the training and employment of Indigenous peoples who are new to the entertainment industry. The company was created to address the underrepresentation of emerging and experienced Indigenous talent – especially women – and the misrepresentation of Indigenous peoples in mainstream media.
Founded by Tania Koenig-Gauchier (Métis) and Shirley McLean (Tlingit), who each brought over two decades of experience in the broadcasting and distribution industry. Wapanatahk has successfully produced, delivered, and distributed four seasons of Wild Rose Vet with Dr. Savannah (aka Dr. Savannah: Wild Rose Vet) and Wild Rose Vets, a show about Indigenous veterinarians for APTN and Cottage Life (Blue Ant Media).
