Producing for virtual productions
Jul 21, 2021
On Wednesday, July 21 at 12:00 pm ET / 9:00 am PT, the CMPA will host a webinar to kick off the production module of the CMPA STAR Producer Program. This webinar will offer members the opportunity to gain a significant understanding of new virtual production technology and techniques through a wide-ranging overview webinar.
Virtual production is an area of digital cinema workflow that deals with real-time use of computer-generated assets during different stages of the production process. It includes real-time animation through motion capture as well as real-time compositing utilizing a green/blue screen or LED wall that requires advanced camera tracking technologies.
Designed by Sheridan’s Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT) and presented in association with the Canadian Film Centre, this webinar will provide producers with a working knowledge of virtual production and the contributing technologies, an understanding of the hardware and crew implications of virtual production, and how this approach to production shifts resources from post-production to pre-production.
The webinar will also provide an overview of technology usages such as LED walls, camera tracking and game engine technology. It will conclude with a curated round table discussion featuring a real-time, virtual visit to SIRT’s Virtual Production Hub.
