Data and Business Analyst

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) is Canada’s leading trade association for independent producers, representing more than 400 companies engaged in the development, production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films and digital media.  The CMPA works on behalf of our members to promote and stimulate the Canadian production industry. Our goal is to ensure the continued success of Canada’s independent production sector and a bright future for Canadian content.


The Position

The CMPA is currently seeking a talented, motivated and experienced Data and Business Analyst (the “Analyst”) to join our Ottawa office. Reporting to the Controller, the Analyst plays an integral role in the management and day-to-day operation of the CMPA’s national CRM database.


  1. Data Analysis and CMPA Database Management
    • The Analyst manages CMPA’s organizational database (Microsoft CRM) and utilizes the data to support various departments with research and reporting. The Analyst is also part of the finance team that ensures the integrity and effectiveness of the financial data and assets of the organization. Specifically, the Analyst will:
      • Prepare reports that reflect financial performance of the CMPA and industry trends at large
      • Analyze available data and present findings in a meaningful way\
      • Be proactive in identifying enhancements to current reports and additional improvements to database inputs
      • Support staff in various departments to make use of CRM as a data collection and reporting tool
      • Identify gaps in data (specifically production data) and locate sources of information to fill these gaps
      • Enter data in an accurate and timely manner
      • Coordinate and liaise with internal staff and external parties, including technical consultants, to optimize the effectiveness of the database
      • Maintain the technical structure of the database with assistance from partners
      • Develop process and training documentation and deliver education to staff and members
      • Monitor and support our membership portal, support members with questions regarding remittances, among other member queries
  1. Other Duties
    • The Analyst will work closely with and support the other members of the finance team to meet our goals and objectives, and should have strong ability to prioritize and address complex business needs.


Education, Experience and Capabilities
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Post-secondary education, with business focus
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft CRM databases
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties
  • Communicates effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Adapts well to a fast-paced environment, with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines
  • Strong organizational, judgement and time management skills
  • Detail and results oriented


  • Knowledge of the media sector
  • Financial background


  • English (written and spoken) essential
  • French (written) would be an asset
