Canadian Cinema - Reignited - 2023
Feb 17, 2023
Last year in partnership with Hot Docs, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and the Toronto International Film Festival, Telefilm Canada began the digitization initiative “Canadian Cinema – Reignited” to restore and digitize Canadian feature film classics and bring them back to the viewers on the big screen an onto streaming platforms.
Canadian companies that operate in the film, television, digital media sectors, or as an archive, that hold the rights necessary to restore the film and convert into a digital form, as well as the rights to execute the domestic and international distribution plan may apply. Eligible projects must be a feature length fictional film or documentary film.
This new initiative offers the opportunity to restore and digitize films of cultural relevance and highlight their importance in Canadian film history. Telefilm’s contribution will be in the form of a non-repayable financial contribution, based on the applicant’s budget, and is subject to the availability of funds.
For further information, the full eligibility requirements, obligations of the selected applicants, and to submit please go to Telefilm’s Digitization Initiative.
*Please note that if an applicant wishes to submit several projects to Telefilm for digitization and restoration, a separate application must be submitted for each project.
Telefilm’s applications for Canadian Cinema – Reignited are open until February 17, 2023.
