If you are applying for a Start-up, Producer or Interactive Membership, you must apply on behalf of a provincially or federally incorporated company. If you are applying for an Associate Membership you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or your company must be a majority Canadian-owned and controlled corporation
Start-up, Producer or Interactive Memberships are for companies engaged in the creation of film, television or interactive media production, including service production
Associate Membership is for individuals or companies offering services to the media industry (including, but not limited to, financial, legal, facilities or other like services)
New members must provide one (1) reference, in order for their applications to be considered. Your reference should be provided by the Principal/Officer of the company of a current voting CMPA member, or a Canadian accredited educational institution. The completed form must be received prior to Board approval.
Once the reference process is complete, the application is submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. The Board reviews/approves memberships monthly. Once your application is approved, payment is required to complete the process.
If you are renewing your membership, your member number will be provided after your fees have been paid.
If you are a new member, the Board of Directors must first approve your application.Once approved, your payment will be requested. After your payment has been processed you will receive your membership number.

However, we have introduced a "4th Quarter Deal" that offers applicants who apply between January 1 and March 31 the opportunity to buy membership for the current and next membership year, at a reduced rate. Please contact us for more information.

Producer: for companies engaged in the creation of film, television or interactive media production, including service production. Must be provincially or federally incorporated companies, majority owned by Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Start-Up: for companies engaged in the creation of film, television or interactive media production, including service production, which have been provincially or federally incorporated for two years or less, majority owned by Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Interactive Media: for companies whose primary business is producing interactive media. Eligibility is limited to companies, including owned or affiliated subsidiary companies, having more than 75% of their combined annual gross revenues originating from online/digital/mobile platforms. Must be provincially or federally incorporated companies, majority owned by Canadian citizens or permanent residents
Associate: for individuals or companies who are not producers and who offer necessary and valuable services to the media industry (including but not limited to, financial, legal, facilities). Must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or, if applying as a company, must be majority Canadian-owned and controlled corporations or partnerships
If your company has been provincially or federally registered for two years or less, you are eligible to join under our Start-Up category which is just $300 per year. Please note, members in this category are not eligible to vote. Check out Membership Categories & Fees page for more information.

Membership should be held by the parent company in order for all of its subsidiary companies to be covered under the same membership.Membership held by a subsidiary company cannot be used by a parent company or any other subsidiaries of the parent company.
Permittee Membership is a single production permit made available to companies which are either not a current CMPA member, or are not Canadian-based. The Permittee Membership allows the production company access to the collective agreements and to be eligible for the member-based rates for administration fees resulting from those agreements. Permittee members are not entitled to vote and are not eligible for any other benefits available to Producer or Associate members.
Please visit our incorporation webpage for links to the provincial incorporation websites. Incorporating your company should take no longer than a week and cost $200-400. If you plan to use a service provider there will be additional costs incurred.
