Writers Guild of Canada

The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) Independent Production Agreement (IPA) establishes the terms, conditions and rates for writers, story editors and story consultants engaged on productions, except French-language production, in Canada. The WGC IPA is jointly negotiated by the CMPA and the AQPM.

The current CMPA/WGC Independent Production Agreement is in effect from March 16, 2015 to December 31, 2017 and can be found here

Fees for engaging writers under the WGC IPA

CMPA administration fees, as per Article A1201 (i) of the 2015 - 2017 WGC IPA, as summarized below;

  • If the producer is a member in good standing with the CMPA as of the date of the remittance of the fee, the producer shall pay to the CMPA two and three quarters percent (2.75%) of the writer's gross remuneration to a maximum of two thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars ($2,850) per production (feature, television movie, pilot, etc.) or one thousand nine hundred dollars ($1,900) per episode of a series.

All administration fees are subject to GST/HST with rates based on the province of production. The CMPA GST/HST number is 121408322RT.
