Overview | Canadian Media Producers Association

Industrial Relations

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) negotiates and administers the collective agreements that govern the engagement of actors, directors, writers, technicians and other production personnel in the Canadian film, television and digital media industry.

The CMPA's Industrial Relations (IR) functions are performed from our offices in Toronto and Vancouver, where our experienced teams liaise with members and key industry stakeholders to maintain a stable, predictable and sustainable labour relations environment for film, television and digital media production in Canada.

Members and duly authorized representatives may contact the IR team for:

  • Interpretation of collective agreements
  • Advice on industry practice
  • Assistance in dispute resolution (and hopeful avoidance of costly arbitration)
  • Support and where appropriate, representation

The National Team, based in Toronto, handles inquiries for productions taking place in Canada, outside of British Columbia. The BC Team, based in Vancouver, covers all productions occurring in B.C.

We encourage all members, or their duly authorized representatives, to contact the IR Teams if they have questions or require clarification on any of the terms and conditions contained in the collective agreements.
