The VP reports to the President and CEO and is responsible for the development and execution of outreach strategies initiatives in accordance with key organizational goals and objectives.  This includes, but is not limited to, recommending and coordinating events, sponsorships, partnerships and strategic initiatives involving staff, volunteers, members and non-members.  The VP is also responsible for developing and executing member engagement strategies and for developing and executing professional development initiatives. These initiatives will be developed by the VP and/or developed in collaboration with other CMPA staff and external consultants.  In most instances, coordination and execution will require working collaboratively in a cross-functional team with colleagues in all three CMPA offices, sometimes leading the process and many times lending critical support to the project leader. 

Core Responsibilities

1.      Sponsorships, partnerships, events and conferences

  • Develop and implement a proactive organizational sponsorship strategy that supports the  organization’s strategic objectives and enhances the profile of the CMPA
  • Ensure that the time of the President & CEO is efficiently coordinated with other staff activities so that Members clearly understand that the senior leadership at CMPA is committed to Member engagement
  • Working with the Communications team, research and recommend opportunities for CMPA exposure at conferences, trade shows and other events that enhance the CMPA brand
  • Work closely with industry consultants and senior staff to cultivate partnerships with individuals and organizations with a view to sharing best practices, information on common interests and furthering the growth and profile of the industry and the CMPA
  • Oversee the planning and execution of Prime Time in Ottawa.  Prime Time in Ottawa is the marquee CMPA
  • Participate throughout the year in various events and conferences.  The VP will also coordinate staff and volunteer attendance at events and conferences to ensure good market penetration and visibility
  • Provide a high level of collaboration with many internal and external stakeholders

2.      Membership

  • Enhance the CMPA’s image for thought leadership among members and potential members
  • Develop and implement an overall membership outreach strategy that aligns with key strategic objectives
  • Together with the Manager, Member Services and Special Events, maintain ongoing and supportive relationships with current members and foster relationships with potential new members
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet the differing needs of existing members, to attract new members and to retain existing members
  • Develop and execute specific strategies to attract new members in emerging fields such as digital media, transmedia and direct to customer production
  • Generally in a supportive role conduct and/or analyze market research, market conditions, member surveys/feedback and competitor information in order to develop an effective action plan the will ensure that the CMPA is well positioned to be the national association of choice for screen-based content producers


3.      Professional development

  • Conduct research to identify development opportunities for both members and non-members
  • Working directly with CMPA team members and expert consultants, develop and deliver curriculum-based development opportunities
  • Provide support to the Mentorship team
  • Leverage strategic partnerships (eg sponsors, universities, colleges) to deliver member services and to attract new members

4.      Communications and public affairs

  • Play an active role in supporting the Director,  Communications and Media in the development of  the CMPA’s external communications strategy as it relates to membership, sponsorships, outreach and partnerships
  • Work with the Director, Communication and Media and other organizations to obtain media coverage and assist in developing an effective CMPA brand awareness campaign  that encourages growth in the membership and value added proposition of the CMPA

5.      General

  • Manage and co-ordinate the Office of the President & CEO with respect to staff initiatives and Member committees to ensure increased access to the membership at large
  • Provide advice to management and Board as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO



  • Minimum of five years of proven leadership experience in a large production company or broadcaster or related screen based organization
  • A marketing/promotions, public relations, advertising or business degree from a recognized university or college, or equivalent professional experience
  • Extensive industry relationships with stakeholders in the production and related screen industries
  • Proven experience in customer and market research
  • Experience overseeing member services would be considered a definite asset
  • Relevant film, television and/or new media production industry knowledge


  • Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Exemplary leadership skills
  • Proven history of working in a collaborative environment
  • Proven record of developing and implementing outreach and partnership strategies that align with strategic objectives
  • Able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties including senior players in the industry
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative and be proactive
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and manage work flow
  • Adaptable to changes in process, systems and organization structures and priorities
  • Strong PC skills ie Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Outlook
  • Be willing and able to travel, and possess a valid drivers’ license
  • Industry experience considered a definite asset



  • English (written and spoken) essential
  • French (written and spoken) considered an asset
