Director, Finance (One Year Part-Time Contract)

Reporting to the President and CEO, and working with the CMPA finance and administrative team, the Director, Finance plays an integral role in ensuring that the finance and accounting function is performed in an efficient and effective manner.

 

The Director, Finance is expected to play a hands-on role in performing his/her responsibilities, and achieve results in a cooperative and inclusive manner.  He/she welcomes being part of the exciting industry served by the CMPA and has the maturity and experience to adapt readily to changing business needs. 

 

Core Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including the design and implementation of appropriate internal controls
  • Responsible for the annual audit and budget cycles as well as all regular/periodic reporting to key stakeholders including but not limited to management, the Board of Directors and its Committees, potential and existing funders
  • Working closely with the President and CEO and the senior management team, develop, consolidate, review and analyze budgets/forecasts to provide timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with statutory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Coordinate banking and investment activities and relationships
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and petty cash
  • Manage payroll and ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner
  • Process and submit statutory and benefits remittances on time
  • Develop, implement,  maintain  and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
  • Monitor risk management policies and procedures to ensure that organizational risks are minimized
  • Ensure the organization is fully compliant with all reporting and remittance requirements related to government financial remittances and filings

 

Education, Experience, and Capabilities

 

  • 8 - 10 years’ progressive experience in finance/accounting
  • Professional accounting designation
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software and databases (QuickBooks, CRM preferred)
  • Able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties
  • Proven ability to excel in a team-oriented, collaborative environment yet able to work independently
  • Communicates effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Adapts well to a fast-paced environment, with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines
  • Strong organizational, judgment and time management skills
  • Detail and results oriented
  • Experience in the Not-for-Profit industry an asset
  • Ability to travel to offices in Toronto and Vancouver as required
