Manager, National Industrial Relations

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) is the country’s leading member-based advocacy organization for independent producers, representing hundreds of companies engaged in the development, production and distribution of English-language content made for television, cinema and digital media channels. The CMPA works to promote the continued success of the Canadian production sector and ensure a future for diverse content made by Canadians for both domestic and international audiences.


We are seeking an experienced industry professional to join our Toronto team as Manager, National Industrial Relations.  In this role, you will be the front-line resource for our members, helping them navigate industrial relations matters within the film, television and digital media industry nationwide, excluding British Columbia. You understand the importance of industrial relations stability and predictability for our members’ success, and will work to resolve issues before they escalate into broader challenges. You actively embrace the change currently underway within the production sector and work to identify ways to leverage this for our members’ success.


You will:


  • Administer all of the CMPA’s national labour agreements
  • Counsel members on a host of challenging industrial relations matters
  • Support and advocate for members before, during and after the grievance and arbitration process
  • Undertake research and preparations in advance of negotiations with union and guild partners  and participate in the negotiation process as required
  • Participate in industry health and safety initiatives to which the CMPA is party
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and identify issues and opportunities for members



  • Minimum five years' production-related experience, interpreting and applying the CMPA’s labour agreements and resolving labour relations challenges
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with members and industry partners
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and desire to get the job done right
  • Focused and detail-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a highly-collaborative team
  • Extremely high standards of ethics and confidentiality
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
