Our client, the Canadian Media Production Association (“CMPA”), Canada’s leading national trade association for independent producers of film, television and digital media content, is seeking an outstanding Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) to provide visionary leadership and strategic guidance to further expand the impact and influence of the CMPA. Based in Ottawa and reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this is a rare and exciting leadership opportunity for an exceptional senior executive who brings 10+ years of strategic leadership experience, combined with strong financial and operational expertise gained within best in class private, public, and/or not-for-profit organizations, ideally within the media, film, and/or telecommunications industries. He/she will possess a proven track record of leadership excellence, combined with experience championing government relations and public affairs strategies, developing high-performance cultures, and delivering results within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
At a transformative time in the industry, CMPA represents the interests of screen-based media companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films, and digital media content in all regions of Canada. An inspirational and visionary leader, the incoming CEO will be responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial oversight of the organization, including accountability for the association’s $6M annual budget and a team of 6 direct reports. Working collaboratively with the Board, the CEO will lead the development and execution of CMPA’s strategic plan, including a forward thinking public affairs and government relations strategy that will enhance CMPA’s profile as the leading association influencing all public policy relating to film, television and interactive media production in Canada.
Possessing a keen understanding of the evolving global media landscape, the CEO will work on behalf of CMPA’s members to develop strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, both nationally and internationally. In particular, these include among others, the CRTC, the federal government, broadcasters, distributors and exhibitors, which serve to facilitate the promotion and stimulus of the Canadian production industry. A consensus builder, the CEO will possess the talent, skills and drive to create and manage CMPA’s strategy, inspire the team, and manage on-going industry relations, regulatory, and member service functions to ensure the continued success of Canada's independent production sector and a future for Canadian content.
The ideal candidate for this dynamic opportunity is an innovative leader with a track record of orchestrating complex change, developing forward thinking regulatory and government relations strategies, and establishing partnerships within multi-stakeholder environments. The new CEO will masterfully communicate the vision for CMPA, drive value creation for its members, attract and serve a broad base of sustainable production companies creating content across all platforms for Canadian and world audiences, and will ensure CMPA is the voice for Canadian content producers for many years to come.
